Cotton Belt Textures of Africa.
The S/S 2011 menswear and womenswear collection takes inspiration from the nature of Africa that intrigues the senses and casts you into a dreamlike dimension.
Peculiar materials and treatments were used to implement this project: sand-finished pants and natural colours with a “dusty feel”, T-shirts with animal prints that fit like a second skin, exclusive feather details.
The art and culture of the populations of the sub-Saharan lands feature strongly here, especially their traditional painting and embroideries that Cotton Belt wants to bring under the limelight: the inside of the waistbands take inspiration from the patterns and patchwork prints of the crafts and blankets made by the native populations.
The designer mixes fabrics, colours and shapes to place man at the centre of that world where everything is born and changes all the time.
The new collections was shown at Vivaio Riva in Via Arena 7, Milan, at Milano Moda Uomo, on 21 June 2010 with an event in support of UNICEF.
There was a runaway show which was wonderful in the middle of that "nature themed" atmosphere of the garden center. I really liked the t-shirts, it was such a pitty you couldn't buy them immediately. We'll have to wait till next year.
Nature patterns are to be found in every designer's collection for spring/summer 2011
Here the pictures of the t-shirts from the collection and the party:
