The sad world of fake bags. Turkey

The sad world of fake bags in Turkey. The most fashion related experience that one can have in Turkey is the sad world of fake designer bags. Starting from the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul being famous as the first mall ever opened in the world back in 1461. With 1200 shops half of which are really shops selling turkish good, while the other half is selling just fake bags, fake watches, and fake clothes. The sad world of fake bags is so widespread in this country that you won’t be able to buy a brandless bag or a pair of sunglasses. I lost my sunglasses during the trip and I had to buy a new pair immediately, and the only ones you can find are fake. So I went for a pair of fake Raybans.
Grand Bazaar, Istanbul

The question that came naturally was : Who are those people who really buy fake bags? I found the answer at the airport: Tourists.
But do you really need a fake Chanel? Will it make you look great? What if someone recognizes it? Isn’t it like telling a lie to yourself? Most of them are even designs that the fashion houses have never done, so it was funny to find a Gucci Wallet with a calculator included. Or a Speedy from Chanel.
While my Louis Vuitton  has survived 6 years of going out in the city, trips in the mountains and at the beach, has fallen from a motorbike and has been run down by a  few cars and is still alive and in good shape. Didn’t I spend my €500 in a real good investment.
There is a saying : I’m not so rich to buy cheap things. I’ve transformed it in “I’m not so rich to buy cheap bags”
So while the sad world of fake bags spreads into the world, I recommend my readers to go for the real thing. The value for money is great, especially for the lines that keep being produced for decades. Save your money, and get a new relationship with a YSL, Louis Vuitton or Chanel. But relationships have to be real. Or look for vintage leather bags, or new leather bags with no brand but beautiful design.

Some people, like me, don’t want to carry around the same Bag for 6 years but want the fashion, therefore fake is the way to go. As long as you like it then whats the problem?

I enjoyed your entries on Toxic Words – such great thoughts and a wonderful reminder to watch the words I use – to be positive and kind and use words to build up rather than tear down. :)

Fake designer bags, clothes and sunglasses are very rampant not just there in Italy but also here in Philippines.

Personally, I don’t buy fake designer bags ‘coz that won’t make me proud. Here they are sold in a quite expensive price but it’s not worth it.

I’d rather have a bag that doesn’t have a brand rather than buy a fake expensive bag.

As for the shoes and clothes, I’m not that choosy.

Non mi piace l’idea di comprare dei fakes, lo trovo “impersonale”. Per me tutti sono liberi di comprare ciò che vogliono, ma non ha senso se esistono migliaia di borse trapuntate senza che siano le due CC stampate sopra.

Very true, whilst on my holidays there I desperately wanted a leather wallet however could only find one with some form of name on it. What I really wanted was a simple, well made purse. I left with a ‘Prada’ one, well made but with a needless name tag.

    Thanks for your sweet comments.
