A tourist in my own country - Kruja, Albania

kruja albania

The first place a tourist must see when in Albania is the small town of Kruja. Just a 30 min drive from the capital Tirana and here one gets acquainted with an important part of the history of this country. A visit to the museum, having lunch in the restaurants inside the castle sitted on the floor, the old way, and shopping at the bazaar for souvenirs or vintage pieces.

This small town was the capital of Albania in 1190 and is the birth town of our national hero Skanderbeg. A town whih is known in history for the resistance against the Ottoman empire in the 15th century and there can be found some remaining buildings from the early times. My favorite part of the trips to Kruja is going through the small artisanal shops of the bazaar hunting for vintage pieces, traditional clothes from the past centuries and buying souvenirs for my non-Albanian friends.

Also this is an opportunity to eat the typical Albanian cousine, in Kruja being different dishes with the kid meat.

Enjoy the images. Anjeza

Kruja looks like a place out of a fairytale - it's so rare to see a place so untouched by time, where traditions are maintained (maybe stubbornly) over years and years. These photos are beautiful. You are looking absolutely lovely, too. The short haircut really suits you!
xox,

I've been in Albania three times and loved it. Kruja is a small town full of history and through its museum I had the opportunity to touch the spirit and the history of this beautiful and hospital country.
leaving aside the beautiful sight from the caste.
In these summer days I'm missing this country a lot. There are times when I think about Tirana, the blloku, the park and Mr Lame's Grill House (spent night there drinking and eating llukanik); other times I wish I could drive towards Korçe, stop by the hill that separates its valley from Pogradec and enjoy the sight of the lake.
