I had to refresh my Turkish language skills to go and meet the designers from the luxury brand Ezra+Tuba who presented their spring Summer 2013 collection in Milan. There is something special in every upcoming designer, especially if the come from a country with great costume history like Turkey. It is no mistery I’m in love with this country, being that in my veins runs some turkish blood from my grandmother.
In the recent years many designers from Turkey have done great things in the fashion industry, just look at the works of Hussein Chalayan, Bora Aksu, Erdem Moralioğlu, Hakan Yildirim just to name a few. Following in the steps of such great designers, Ezra+Tuba is a brand representing the fusion of east and west. The traditional turkish intricate work of embroidery and Anatolian motifs exalt the identity of the designers, but every piece from their collections has an edge making them resemble modern sculpures.
The two sisters Ezra and Tuba Cetin have been raised within the fashion industry where their family owns a textile company so going to design schools has been an obvious choice for them. With their brand, born in 2003, now they are entering the European market showcasing their collections in Paris, Barcelona and Milan.
I had the opportunity to meet Ezra Cetin in Milan. A nice afternoon spent sipping Mumm Champagne, talking about creativity in the 21 century and the rising fashion scene in Istanbul. I really loved the couture pieces for spring summer 2013 and the exceptional hand-made work in every piece. The ready-to-wear collection includes some amazing dresses. The inspiration for the collection comes from an imaginary underwater civilization who has decided to leave the sea and has choosen to live on the dry land. A mix of futuristic and romantic designs in yellow, orange and bronze.
