When in doubt wear black, they say. But most of the time when in doubt I wear colours, because I find black harder to style. There is a certain style safety with black because it has been regarded as elegant and chic for so many years, that no one can doubt it anymore. Everyone agrees that black is slimming and it looks good with all skin tones, black looks great with all hair colors, and it suits women and men. But even when I put my best effort to wear black to match the YSL Opium mood, I need to add some color because I think that black is boring. The only designers that can make black look good are Yoji Yamamoto, Gareth Pugh, Haider Ackermann and Rick Owens because they put an edge to it. But I’d pick Peter Pilotto, Erdem and Mary Katrantzou every other day.
