My latest trip to Istanbul was the first work related. Those 4 days turned out to be a pleasure as Ezra & Tuba Cetin, the fashion designers of Ezra + Tuba Atelier, had planned everything in a way so that we could experience the Turkish culture through not only fashion but also architecture, food and people.
Thier Haute Couture show opened the Fashonist event with a spiritual journey. Architecture and the feminine body were a central focus in this collection. Ezra+Tuba created a collection inspired by the art of crafting the Japanese samurai armour, and by Anatolian Seljuk Turks ornamental architecture and heritage, reinterpreted with a touch of technology. Ezra+Tuba always had a taste for futuristic designs and have always been using an array of antagonist materials in their collections: mixing metal, leather, plastic, natural fibres, embroideries, precious silks and noble fabrics.
Ezra Tuba Atelier The Beginning
In a world of darkness and on the edge of human extinction emerges an empowered and assertive femininity. An army of vigilantes, modern amazons warriors and mystical priestesses, walk in unity down the runway with armours of metal and light. Like the daughters of Gaia, these compassionate creatures unit their wisdom, strengths and magic, casting a spell to protect humanity and restoring back balance, harmony, unity and peace as the butterflies rise in the dawn sky… a new flourishing day, a new “beginning” for the world.
The “Beginning” collection is the latest stage of the “Fashion and Technology” collaboration project between Ezra+Tuba, Intel and Asus. It is the result of a 6-month long project from the initial conceptualization, design of the collection, completion of the embroidery work / electrical engineering, until its presentation to the public. The collection uses wearable technology, creating gowns made from smart materials and equipped with Intel Edison platform directly communicating with smart mobile devices. As the needs of technology and communication rapidly expand in our everyday life, Ezra+Tuba wanted to experiment converging fashion towards technology in order to enhance and extend the functionality of clothing. The presentation also showcased flying drones and jumping mini robots from Parrot as technological companions to further demonstrate our growing need and usage of technology. Aiming to develop more collections with smart textile and embedded wearable technologies – this show will mark the “beginning” of a new era for Ezra+Tuba.
Ezra Tuba Backstage details
The designers play with contrasts mixing hard materials and textures, such as metal, copper chains and stencilled leather, with the feminine flow of silks and the shimmer of richly embroidered fabrics. Bustier, characterized by cuirass-like breastplates, and the structure of the dresses, conceived as a protective shell, are made of intricate woven leathers straps or metal chains, ornamented with rich gold and crystal details, exquisitely contouring the shapes of the feminine body.
Predominant shades of blue (attributes of calmness and inner-strength) and bright red (colour of confidence and passion) dominates the collection. Beige acts as a neutral colour, providing a lighter base to merge colours with gold and copper hues, enlightening the collection like modern chain-mail. The coloured and gold lacings represent good fortune and abundance.
