We all remember when Madonna strapped on that famous pointed cone shaped bra and shocked the world. Then it was Selena who picked up the trend followed by other musical artists. Today it is something we see often on the stage. It has been seen a bit more recently on the street as well as crop tops with bra’s built-in. As the everyday lingerie wear trend is hot now, we also spy a celebrity or two sporting a lacy cami-top bra. As for the runway, lacy bras under dinner jackets, visible but hidden we have all seen before.
However this year is the year of no more hiding, much like Madonna’s bustier debut. Quite the opposite, bralettes are being worn alone without a cover. Even more surprisingly they are actually being worn over the top of clothing! The bralette trend is back in full force, though obviously with a few more modern touches.Every kind of bralette is welcome! From Victoria Beckham’s balconette bralette in the rich, jewel-toned satin to the frilly patterned ruffle ensembles of Altuzzara. Of course, Alexander McQueen had his own ideas with what to do with this tend. His Victorian Gothic cropped corset bralettes, Renaissance remnant and naturally studded leather bustier tops making quite the authoritative statement strutting down the catwalk.
Fashion trend Wear your bra out
On the sportier side of things, we have the swimsuit bralette! Brought to us by Balmain, again in more of a jewel-toned balconette style. And Alexander Wang who experimented with the wrap-around, ruffled and triangle shaped bikini top in lighter pale colors. But as I mentioned before, you need not worry if it’s still a little chilly for this fabulous bralette look come spring time. As this new trend makes it completely stylish to not only wear them over cute little tops and boyfriend button-downs, but over full knit sweaters as well! Just as Mui Mui and Kenzo did.
